Open Question: Are Detroit lions any good?

Okay, so I'm English and haven't really watched a lot of nfl, and when I did, I didn't understand it. But I watched the last super bowl and I just finished watching this one and I really enjoyed it. It was filled with drama. I understand a lot more now and I'm continuing to learn more about the game. But I decided I needed a team to support, so I went with Detroit lions. (where eminem comes from, he's my idol so that influenced my choice) Are they any good? Also are most nfl games as exciting as the super bowl games?
