Hello Lions fans! This weeks matchup against the Washington Redskins will mark the long-awaited return of the teams #1 overall draft pick in 2009, Matthew Stafford. Stafford has been sidelined since injuring his right shoulder midway through the teams week one loss in Chicago.
Although the Lions have remained competitive, they still have only one win to show for their efforts. Backup QB Shaun Hill played well in Stafford's absence, but was behind Stafford on the depth chart for a reason-- Hill simply does not have the poise or arm strength Stafford possesses. However, after six weeks on the Lions sideline, Stafford is now fully healed and ready to lead the Lions to victory Sunday.
The Lions should also have running back Jahvid Best fully healthy for the first time since injuring his toe in week 3. Although Best has toughed it out, he has clearly been affected by the injury. The rookie from California has seen a major dip in productivity after getting off to a fast start. Lions coach Jim Schwartz declared earlier in the week that Best was quote, "close to putting the injury in the rear-view."
For the Lions and their fans, they hope the Redskins game will be a starting point to turning their season around. With a healthy Stafford and Best, anything is possible.
